A French soldier is taking part in a street firefight against French rebel forces of the OAS (Organisation of the Secret Army). OAS activists were French fanatics soldiers and civilian categorically refusing the independance of Algeria. After the signature of the Evian treaty by de Gaulle, a wave of violence initiated by the OAS shaped the the conflict into an even more violent kind of civil war. Bab-el-Oued, Algeria, March 1962.
